OUR GENESIS

Brain child of Shri (Late) Somnath Chatterjee (Ex Member of Parliament and Speaker, Lok Sabha) and the present day General Secretary of the organization, Mr Kanti Ganguly, who was moved during one of his casual outings when they happened to interact with a disabled boy.

An organization for the disabled, named Dakshin Sahartali Pratibandhi Sammilani (DSPS) was formed and, later on, when the need for a larger forum that would represent the entire disabled community in the State arose, PRPS was formed in a Convention on Rights for Disabled in Kolkata in 1986.

It was decided that PRPS would work with stakeholders, especially the government to consolidate an inclusive society by upholding the rights of disabled individuals.

The prime mandate of PRPS then was social recognition and economic rehabilitation. However, as new ideas emerged, PRPS also evolved. Therefore, PRPS today is one of the very few self sustained and large organizations that work on almost every type of disability
